I produced this series of three short contributor-led pieces exploring what it's like to live with one of the most misunderstood mental health disorders around. OCD, or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, affects almost three quarters of a million people in the UK.
I travelled around the UK to find and record with three young people living with different forms of OCD. I was really keen to explore lesser-known, more stigmatised forms of the disorder, to ensure the programme could play a positive part in encouraging Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s young listeners - especially those living with OCD - to talk more openly about mental health and neurodiversity. Accurate, varied representation in the media can play a big part in busting toxic myths and misconceptions.
The below clips feature Hannah, who has contamination OCD, and Sam, who has two rarer forms of OCD - transformation obsession and sexually intrusive thoughts.
